ABSTRACT

Lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) is widely used as a rapid point-of-care testing (POCT) technique in food safety, veterinary and clinical detection on account of the accessible, fast and low-cost characteristics. After the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), different types of LFIAs have attracted considerable interest because of their ability of providing immediate diagnosis directly to users, thereby effectively controlling the outbreak. Based on the introduction of the principles and key components of LFIAs, this review focuses on the major detection formats of LFIAs for antigens, antibodies and haptens. With the rapid innovation of detection technologies, new trends of novel labels, multiplex and digital assays are increasingly integrated with LFIAs. Therefore, this review will also introduce the development of new trends of LFIAs as well as its future perspectives.

ABSTRACT

Alternate : The study's main purpose is to reveal the effects of the COVID'19 pandemic on the tourism industry and consumer preferences that can emerge in the post-pandemic holiday tourism demands. The study used quantitative data collection techniques to obtain and analyse the data with the descriptive research approach. The study consists of three parts. In the first part, the literature review of the effects of the pandemic on the tourism industry is stated. Then, similar studies reveal people's preferences and behaviours that may occur during and after the pandemic. In the second part, a field study was conducted to get the opinions of people who plan to travel for a vacation after the pandemic by using social media tools through a questionnaire. As a result of the field study, it has been seen that the regions will come to the fore in travel preferences where the tourist density is low, precautions were taken, and less affected by the pandemic. In the last part of the study, through the findings obtained from the field research and similar studies, suggestions were presented to the destination planners, managers and tourism operators about the changes that may occur in the behaviour of tourists. The study's results show similarity with those obtained in similar studies conducted in Turkey and the world.

ABSTRACT

Until the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual tourism was not as popular as during its duration in 2021, when traveling in the real world was not possible due to social isolation and forced quarantine. In response to the lockdown and the lack of freedom of movement around the world, tourists decided to travel in cyberspace during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this way only, and without leaving home, could they visit tourist attractions, watch museum exhibitions, participate in various media events and take virtual walks. After the "unfreezing” of tourism, the time has now come to adapt tourism to the post-pandemic normality. The aim of the paper is to discover whether the new trend of online tourism that developed during the pandemic will stay with us forever and how it will evolve, especially for Generation Z, who are just entering the labor market but who, at the same time, will determine the future of tourism soon. The research results show that as the pandemic restrictions disappear, the need to experience various forms of tourism in places previously viewed in cyberspace (virtually), occurs among the representatives of Generation Z. Thus, virtual tourism is a form that precedes and complements a real journey. The qualitative method was chosen for the research conducted in Poland. The research was carried out in 2022. A total of 40 focus groups of 7 people each (N = 280) participated in the research. They consisted of Generation Z representatives born after 1995;the oldest of them will be 27 in 2022. In parallel, the method of in-depth individual interviews was used in the research. In order to reach the participants, a non-random sample was chosen using the "snowball” method. In total, 100 people took part in the in-depth individual interview. The two-track research allowed to obtain a total sample of N = 380. © 2023 by the authors.

ABSTRACT

The present article draws on the results of research that explored the role of complex rehabilitation and its individual components;the effectiveness of social rehabilitation in the integration of people into society;feedback from clients on how they evaluate their cooperation with rehabilitation workers in selected facilities;as well as feedback from rehabilitation and social workers on how they evaluate their cooperation with clients. The research took place from May 2020 to March 2022. The first group of respondents comprised 360 clients of rehabilitation centers, social and occupational rehabilitation centers and physiotherapy-rehabilitation departments in Slovakia, specifically Bratislava and Trencin. The second group of respondents consisted of 30 rehabilitation and social workers employed in these facilities. This research employed quantitative and qualitative research strategies. The conducted research also highlighted the importance of the creation of complex theoretical and empirical bases concerning social rehabilitation and its role in the integration of people with disabilities into society. The results of the research have also shown the need to raise professional awareness of the importance of complex rehabilitation and its modern trends and, last but not least, the need to improve the level of professional education in the field of complex rehabilitation and social rehabilitation. The results obtained from the research can be used to develop analyses that will form the basis for additional relevant and helpful research in the field of trends in social rehabilitation and improvement of the possibilities of their application.

ABSTRACT

We are currently witnessing major changes in the world both in terms of work and in the choice of leisure time. Crises provoke and stimulate ways to reinvent trends and new models, including work. During the COVID-19 crisis, and despite the concept of digital nomadism already existing, many professionals began to migrate to quieter places and away from the agglomerations working remotely. The possibility of working anywhere in the world is gaining more followers, and the Portuguese tourism offer is starting to awaken to this niche market that has a longer stay than the traditional tourist and greater involvement with the local community in its favor. In Portugal, due to the need to readjust the offer of the hotel sector in response to market trends and the subsistence of a sector so affected by the pandemic, several hotels have adapted to receive guests with longer stays. The purpose of this paper is to contribute to a better understanding of the growth of this type of tourism in Portugal and its implications, focused mainly in the study case of some hotels that made a strategy change to fulfil the nomadism requirements. The final analysis revealed that Portugal has great strategic potential to capture this market, due to its geographic location, the low cost of living it can offer, the excellent quality services and the favorable climate. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

During the last years, the retail industry has changed enormously due to the ongoing digitalization, accelerated also by the coronavirus disease in 2019. The aim of this study is to provide an overview of the emerging trends in grocery retailing in Italy and to investigate the key aspects of a new e-grocer player represented by online grocery delivery service start-ups. An explorative qualitative research design was carried out through semi-structured interviews with marketing managers to identify the main challenges currently faced by grocery retailers, then a case study of a grocery delivery start-up (Gorillas) was carried out to understand its business model and current role within the grocery retail landscape. The preliminary findings highlighted as main trends characterizing grocery retailing: an e-commerce spread, new consumption habits based on digital skills, convenience, and last-minute needs. All these trends are at the basis of the online grocery delivery service that is developing quickly in Europe and also in Italy. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

PurposeTelemedicine is limited in dentistry but it has untapped opportunities. Innovative digital patient registration and “remote evaluation”, and pre-screening are based on photos and questionnaires. All these with the dental office's smartphone mobile application and with the DentaLive evaluation web software (for dentists). Methods: We have analyzed the turnover of our praxis before and after the implementation of our new service. Furthermore, 150 patients (ranging from 21-45 years) were asked why did they choose patient registration and remote evaluation through the clinic's mobile application.ResultsThe turnover increased by 43% compared to the same period last year. In addition, 72% of patients who requested remote evaluation have characterized their fear as more than 7 on a 1 to 10 scale. Out of these patients mostly provided the following cause: “I wanted to get information before I went to the dentist so I won't be surprised during the treatments.” Next, 96% of patients who used the application for patient registration reported that the procedure was a pleasant experience because of the contactless registration and because they can even do it at home in a calm environment.ConclusionsTeledentistry with the dental office's own mobile application gives the opportunity not just to catch up with new trends but to fulfill the highest level of patient care - while lowering the maintenance costs of the offices/clinics and mitigating the risk of spreading infectious diseases such as COVID-19 - with the power of asynchronous telemedicine.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic forced the tourism sector to stop a global machine that moved 1.46 billion international travellers during 2019 and generated 1.7 trillion dollars in exports. Tourism, which had become a lifeline for many economies hit by the 2008 previous economic crisis, has suffered especially the socio-economic consequences of the pandemic, but at the same time it has become a field of social innovation in which adaptation phenomena have been studied synchronously. These changes will probably change permanently the ways in which we practice and interact, at different levels, with tourism. This article serves at the same time as a presentation of the monographic "Post-COVID-19 Tourism from the Social Sciences" that Barataria has facilitated us to coordinate and as a theoretical reflection on how the pandemic has impacted tourism as a total social fact. The general agreement, in the contributions to this number, of certain conclusions is a good indicator of its reliability and relevance.
